Just over a couple of years ago in a Uber Ride, myself and the driver Ali were talking about financial freedom and what it would do for us. He had picked me up from a football coaching session to drop me back home. He said he had recently been investing into crypto as one of his boys got him involved. I asked him how much profit he had made and he said £500 in the past week from a £300 investment. Sounds enticing right? I later found out that it was a £10,000 investment and he had got lucky. Crazy, how people can believe their own hype when they want to. One coin he did mention though was a meme coin called Shiba Inu. I had spend a lot of my time researching Shiba and watching hundreds of youtube videos about how it would go to $1 and a lot of people would be rich. I joined the Shiba Inu community telegram and I received a message via private message from a moderator called Joe. (Well so I thought)
Joe asked me if I had set up a crypto wallet to secure my funds, I had no clue what he was talking about so he sent me a message detailing what a crypto wallet did. At that point, I was introduced to trust wallet. So I went onto the App Store to download it and Joe showed me how to send my funds from the Binance Mobile App to TrustWallet. I remember messaging my best mate at the time, telling him to invest into Shiba Inu and how the telegram Community they had, were very friendly and helpful. Joe sent me a message saying I should verify my trust wallet, and since Joe had helped me already I had no reason to doubt him. So he sent me a verification link.
Cut a long story short, Joe was not my friend. I had invested around £2000 into Shiba Inu and now it was all gone. It sucked, but I still had so many videos of youtubers talking about how the price of Shiba Inu was about to rocket. I had learnt my lesson from Joe, invested only £200 in Shiba Inu and left it for a while to see my investment grow. In may 2021, Shiba Inu grew to its all time high. My £200 became £1400. I was happy, I told everyone about it. I don’t think anyone listened. I even spoke to a family friend about it and they said they were in DRIP. I had never heard of the term, I googled it and nothing came up. So I went on my MERRY WAY, believing Shiba Inu was going to make me financially free.
Introduced to defi
It was November the 6th 2021 and I had just got off the phone to same family friend, who told me about DRIP, also known as Drip Network. He described it as a medium to long term savings plan which would help with my Wedding. In fact, this will be the year that once in a life-time event will happen. Anyways, let’s get back on track. He told that he was so sure about it, that if I invested £100 and I didn’t get my money back after a month or I wasn’t happy with the results, he went transfer £100 straight to my bank account. I joined the community telegram group and have never looked back since. Since my time in Defi, I have made back my £2000 that I lost in crypto in 2021 plus transferred a total of around £50k.
